Korado mags hate Free Spirit/Magnum swingarms

As it turns out, the bracket on the rear brake plate of a korado mag that slides onto the swingarm locating pin is too short and closed at the end. Now I think i’m gonna have to chop off the old locating pin and run a heavy-duty bolt through the swingarm. That or weld attachments onto the bracket to make it longer. Neither of these options are capable of being done at my apartment.

Here they are mounted. No brakes in 2010.

Amgen rolled by my hood as well. Bike nerds make me feel weird.

I got my tubes yesterday but no tires. Apparently, Motorcycle Superstore ships from multiple warehouses so my tubes came from Oregon and my tires are coming from Kentucky. Hopefully they will be here tomorrow and I can finally get these wheels on bike. I hope to get my forks shortened and smaller shocks on my bike before San Jose rally. I also wanna reshape my seat as well. Free Spirit seats sit to high with low bars.

How to paint mags: Small budget edition

So I recently bought some Korado 3-stars from a dude on MA. I knew that they were pretty ratty before purchasing so while I waited for them to ship I did some research on how to clean them up.

I bought some aircraft stripper from Kragen. The guy who sold it to me told me I should be super careful because it has methylene chloride in it and it could really burn if it got on my skin (more about that later).

I put on some rubber gloves and tied a shirt around my mouth and got to work. First thing I noticed was just how potent this stuff was. I got super light headed after taking small whiff of it. I was pretty liberal with how much I put on and made sure to coat everything. Once I started on the second wheel, I noticed the first one was already blistering. I was able to peel off a huge chunk of paint with ease.

I waited about 20 minutes and then scrubbed them with some steel wheels and used a thin piece of metal I found on the ground to get into the grooves. I took off my gloves partially into it to get a better grip on my tool and almost instantly I felt my pinkie knuckle burning.  Luckily this stuff is easy to wash off and doesn’t need to be neutralized or anything.

It was near impossible to get out the paint in the grooves and bolt holes, especially since I was all out of stripper.

I used a dremel to scrape away the leftover bits of paint and cleaned them up for “prime time”.

I also had a Mountain Dew: Distortion. Don’t buy this! It tastes exactly like reg MD (that means regular Mountain Dew). Get the white kind. It’s delicious.

Hella siqq bro-fest in this pic.

The rest of this post is boring. 2 coats of prime, 2 light coats of enamel, 1 medium coat of enamel, 2 light coats of clear coat, 2 medium coats of clear coat.

Not sure what makes Wheel paint different from anything else that Dupli-color makes but we'll see how it holds up.

The finished product

Super glossy

The paint seems to be pretty strong but this should only be temporary because I wanna get them powder coated white soon. Tires should be here tomorrow, so hopefully I can get those on and ride on some super smooth sealed-bearings.

New Blog

So i’m starting a mostly moped and partially personal blog. Should be fun times.
